Mary Yancy Clay Craft Studio Egyptian Blue Art Pottery Vase American1930's Large Clay Craft Studios vase by Newcombe College graduate (1922) Mary Yancy (Hodgedon). Handthrown in cream colored clay with heavy "Egyptian blue" crackle glaze. Interesting deco form with large body, graduated shoulder, and tall mouth. Probably made during Yancy's time at Clay Craft in the early 1930's. Hand incised "Y" on base within a circle. After graduating Newcombe College Mary Yancy taught art pottery at Iowa State College with Paul Cox from 1924-1930. In 1931 she founded Clay Craft Studios with three other women in Winchester, Massachusetts. She worked there until 1934 when she moved to California to teach.
